Why Be in a MotherDaughterBookClub

How this book came about

I started my first mother-daughter book club in 2001, when my daughter Madeleine was nine. I started my second group three years later when my daughter Catherine turned nine. The advice in Book by Book has been culled from my own experiences as well as those of moms in book clubs across the country. You will also find advice from librarians, parenting experts and others to help you get your own club off to a good start and thrive for years to come.

Here’s what others are saying about Book by Book:

“Book by Book is a great resource for mothers looking for a different and valuable way to connect with their daughters. Just leafing through the pages of this book will inspire you to consider how fun, meaningful, and engaging a mother-daughter book club can be. Cindy Hudson includes not only the basics—where to meet, how to handle situations that may arise—but also suggests age-appropriate and discussion-provoking ideas for girls.” —Nancy Pearl, author of Book Lust: Recommended Reading for Every Mood, Moment, and Reason

“What a fabulous book! Inspiring and informative, Hudson’s warm, engaging guide is like having your best friend walk you through the ins and outs of the mother-daughter book club process. If you’re in a mother-daughter book club or are looking to start one, this indispensable tool deserves a spot on your shelf. ” —Heather Vogel Frederick, author of The Mother-Daughter Book Club novels for tweens

“Cindy Hudson’s Book By Book is an essential read for mother’s and daughters.  I love the concept and Cindy’s execution and ability to relate to both girls and parents is fabulous. A great gift for any mother daughter team as well.”
–Vanessa Van Petten, teen author of You’re Grounded!

“My girls are going to be interviewing Andrea Montalbano, author of Breakaway, via Skype. We are so excited. I wouldn’t have thought of the idea without reading your book. Thank you!”  Amber H., book club mom from Huntington Beach, California

  1. I love these books. And I am planning on starting one of my own. I think I have had a total Emma moment because my best friend just moved to Tennessee, so I hope she likes the idea and joins. Hopefully it will help us get in better touch.
