My non-mother-daughter-book-club friends are often surprised when I say I really like reading the same books my daughters do. They’re inclined to think that anything that appeals to kids and teens can’t possibly hold the interest of adults. Nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, I would say that some of my favorite [...]

I recently got a note from Willow at Middle School Book Reviews recommending a book called Fat Chance by Leslea Newman. (See Willow’s review). She recommends it as a way to talk about body image and eating disorders with girls. If you’re searching for books to check out for reading with middle school girls, you [...]

Today is Drop Everything and Read (D.E.A.R.) day, a wonderful time dedicated to the joy of reading. When my daughters were young, they had D.E.A.R. time every day in elementary school. My contribution to the list is A Northern Light by Jennifer Donnelly. When we read it in my mother-daughter book club, most of the moms and daughters liked it, which is something [...]

The Cybils 2009 winners are finally here, and looking over the list I’m surprised to find that I haven’t read even one of the books. Cybils stands for Children and Young Adult Bloggers Literary Awards. the number of books some of these bloggers read is truly amazing. These people know their books. You’ll find awards [...]

I’ve recently discovered BookBundlz.com, a website with a wealth of information for book club members. I’ll be posting articles on a regular basis, and the first one you’ll find is this one on working moms and mother-daughter book clubs. While you’re there, you can check out BookBundlz’ other features as well. While many of the [...]
